Living in the Traffic Cam Future

I learn something new almost every time I talk shop with a colleague. Recon is such a multi-faceted craft, and every facet has its own corners ripe for discovery. We all uncover useful insights and tools in our work, but it’s not always widely distributed. That’s a big part of why I write these emails, and it reminds me of a quote by William Gibson:

“The future is already here - it’s just not evenly distributed.”

Case in point: I previously wrote about RoadProof, but didn’t know about Traffic Cam Archive [TCA] until Tommy Sturdivan mentioned it to me a couple weeks ago. He’s living in the future.

TCA currently has 43,979,126 videos in its archive, and it’s only $250 per hour of video (or free if you’re active law enforcement). No membership or long-term commitment required. The one downside is that they usually only retain videos for 90 days. Sometimes it’s up to 150, but that’s not guaranteed, so it requires quick action.

RoadProof stores data for a year and is also free for law enforcement, but requires a membership for private recons. Both tools have value; it’s just balancing what the case demands and the resources of your firm.

For TCA, you can browse cameras here. After selecting a state and a specific camera, choose a one-hour window to preview and purchase the video.

Powerful resource. Thanks for sharing, Tommy!

Keep exploring,

P.S. In case you missed it, we launched our forensic video tool, vPrism this week! Many thanks to those who’ve already bought a seat or started a trial. It’s been a busy few days.

P.P.S. I’m checking out for a couple weeks with the family. I’ll see you back here on July 17th!
