Ethos

At Lightpoint, accuracy isn’t a tagline, it’s the foundation. We exist to equip reconstructionists with forensic-grade data, tools, and world-class education to elevate the quality of their work and strengthen the entire community. Every dataset we create, every course we teach, and every tool we build is designed to bring clarity, faster. We help experts reach accurate, credible answers with less friction.

Lightpoint: the truth, revealed.

Evolving the Field, Together

Lightpoint was born in 2013 from a simple question: can we go through the pains of measuring exemplar vehicles so the community doesn’t have to? What started as a collection of 40 skeletal models developed by Lou Peck in his home office, has grown into an industry resource led by a dedicated team.

Today, Lightpoint is a place recons go to acquire the highest quality data and education. From point clouds, to meshes and datasheets, we invest the time and effort to create detailed, reliable data so they’re accessible to everyone.

Our team continues to learn and evolve, so we can help the entire community do the same. Formal multi-day classes, podcasts with leading experts, and weekly insights in our newsletter, To the Point, are all part of our goal to keep knowledge moving forward for the benefit of all who share this work.

What started as a small, singular idea, has transformed into something bigger… and we’re just getting started.

Our Team

Lou Peck MSME, ACTAR, PE

Principal Engineer

Lou leads our product development and educational development. With 20+ years of experience as a collision reconstructionist he has a solid understanding of the challenges his colleagues face and creates content and products accordingly.

He holds two degrees in mechanical engineering and developed Northwestern's Motorcycle Collision Reconstruction course. He has published many papers in the field of collision reconstruction exploring photogrammetry, video analysis, motorcycle impact analysis, human factors, etc., and continues to prioritize elevating the collision reconstruction community via education.

Sam McCool-Hill BS

Operations Director

Sam oversees Lightpoint's operations and digital infrastructure. Having been a key part of the team since 2020, she has been a part of Lightpoint's growth from its early products to its current role as a leader in reconstruction education and data.

Beyond daily logistics, Sam plays a central role in the delivery of Lightpoint's expanding catalog of courses and tools. By managing the full lifecycle of our offerings, including the podcasts, newsletters, and Lightpoint Learning, she ensures that as the company continues to innovate, our operations and customer support remain as precise as our data.

Mike Garcia BA

3D Scanning Specialist

As our 3D Scanning Specialist, Mike works directly with dealerships and private owners to expand Lightpoint's growing point cloud database and to fulfill custom exemplar requests. From heavy trucks and motorcycles to vintage sedans, if it's out there, Mike has the unique ability and contacts to find and scan it.

Beyond his work in the field, Mike is a specialist in scan data processing. With the precision of a surgeon, he ensures that every exemplar point cloud meets Lightpoint's rigorous standards for accuracy and detail. While he primarily focuses on building the database, he also lends his data-processing expertise to other experts, helping to ensure they can access and utilize the scan data for their analyses.

Heather Elroy BFA

3D Technical Artist

Heather leads our continued development and research of our low-poly, Caliber Meshes, ensuring Lightpoint’s models are both accurate and lightweight. With over eight years of experience as a 3D technical artist, she brings a specialized background that includes producing high-fidelity vehicle models and interactive environments for military simulations.

Heather is responsible for converting our expansive Vision Point Cloud database into optimized Caliber Meshes, transforming detailed scan data into forensic-grade assets that function as works of technical art.

Dan McLain BS

Public Safety Solutions Executive

Dan brings over 25 years of law enforcement experience to his role as a Public Safety Solutions Executive. As an ACTAR-accredited reconstructionist, he serves as a vital link between Lightpoint and the law enforcement community, ensuring our solutions are practical, impactful, and tailored to the specific needs of reconstructionists in the field.

A passionate advocate for professional development, Dan focuses on bridging the gap between emerging technology and industry education. Whether facilitating training sessions or representing Lightpoint at national conferences, he is dedicated to helping agencies maximize their resources and connecting experts with the tools necessary to succeed in complex investigations.

David Weaver BSME (In Progress)

Intern

David is a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Lightpoint and pursuing his bachelor's degree at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

David is instrumental in the development of Lightpoint's stiffness coefficient database. By applying modern methodologies to our extensive library of point cloud data, he produces datasheets designed to enhance the accuracy of crush analyses. His fresh perspective and educational focus have quickly made him a great addition to the team.
