A lot of us have spent years using the tools Terry Day helped develop. Recently, I got to ask him how it all started.
Terry joined me on the Data Driven Podcast for a great conversation about his background and career. We covered a lot of ground, from the challenges associated with getting mainframe programs onto personal computers (his first monthly bill for mainframe access through Boeing was ~$2,500 in 1981!), to developing a 3D simulation model. We also talked about the practical side of simulation, from getting a good evidentiary match to testifying.
I attended Terry’s simulations class over a decade ago, where he teaches how the programs actually work, not just how to use them. I took 38 pages of notes, but a specific instruction from Terry earned three exclamation points. Here’s Terry on that topic:
It was a true honor to spend some time with a recon icon. If you’d like to hear the whole conversation, it’s available here.
Thanks for reading, keep exploring!
