Meet Xenoray
I’m a big fan of rendering point cloud exhibits in an x-ray style. Something like this:
There are several tools that can produce this look, but they either come with a steep learning curve or a license that not every agency or firm can justify. I’ve even tried to hire a developer to create a CloudCompare plug-in, without success.
So, here’s my crack at it, free to all: Xenoray. It's browser-based, but your files stay local. Just drag and drop the point cloud(s), assign column definitions, subsample to your liking, and boom… instant beauty. Here's a sample Vision Point Cloud if you'd like some data to experiment with. For casework, our full library of 1,727 point clouds is here.
I’ll record a tutorial before long, but I’m confident you’ll get the hang of it with a little experimentation.
Please give it a spin and let me know what you think. If the feedback is good, we’ll keep maintaining and improving it.
Thanks for reading, keep exploring!
